Make your quarantining count with these DIY home upgrades

I don’t know about you, but what’s been days has felt like months of social distancing. While it’s always nice to get to spend more time with family and collect yourself in your own space, it’s completely normal to start getting cabin fever, especially if you’ve been stuck in a monotonous routine. Whether you’re considering putting your home on the market or simply trying to get settled in your current space, I have some rewarding DIY upgrades that will keep you busy and enhance your home.

Brighten up your day

A more aesthetically “open” looking space is not the only reason to brighten up the color of your home’s walls. Giving your home a new coat of paint can give you a fresh, clean and new perspective. A neutral color scheme can unify an entire house, make the space look more prominent, bring out accents in your furniture and decor, and appeal to a wider variety of potential buyers.

From the wall to the window

Windows are a huge focal point and a huge selling point. But, they can easily distract and go from perk to problem. Replace generic vertical plastic blinds, paper shades or horizontal aluminum blinds with plantation shutters, wooden blinds, drapes or sheer curtains. Not only will these look better, they’ll make you (or potential buyers) feel more at home.

Keeping up with the kitchen

If you’re looking for an easy DIY task to preoccupy yourself with a nice payoff, changing the knobs and handles on all of your kitchen cabinetry is the way to go. If your cabinets require more TLC, a fresh coat of white paint will help contribute to brightening up the room, and they never really go out of style! If you plan on tackling a paint job on your cabinets, be sure to clean them well and make it a point to reorganize your cookware and spices.

Plug up the power washer

A really easy fix to enhancing your home’s curb appeal is applying a nice powerwash to the exterior. Simply rent, borrow or buy a power washer hose and give your driveway, patio, walkways and brick a good washing. It’s not only satisfying to watch, but it’s also pretty effective in making your home look brand new.

Although these aren’t the easiest of circumstances, it’s important to stay positive and try to take advantage of the extra time spent in your home by producing a positive project that doesn’t have to cost you a pretty penny or involve contractors.
