Three tips for selling your home during a pandemic

As we come together (metaphorically) during the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to look for the light at the end of the tunnel. Most of us are spending weeks in isolation, but that doesn’t mean life has to stop. If you are thinking about selling your home, now is better than ever to move forward with your plans. But first, here are tips before putting that “For Sale” sign in your yard.

Modernize your space.

With extra time staying at home and practicing social distancing, make the added effort to achieve that “wow factor, ” without having to hire a contractor. There are several DIY methods to modernize your home and make a lasting first impression to buyers. From brightening up your walls with a fresh coat of a neutral-colored paint to replacing hardware on your kitchen and bathroom cabinets for a more sleek look. There are also several easy-to-install smart home devices like a Ring doorbell, a Nest for climate control and Arlo security cameras.

Host a virtual open house.

Just because people can’t physically visit your home for a tour doesn’t mean you can’t showcase it to potential buyers. Now’s your opportunity to take advantage of our digital advantages and offer seekers a virtual open house. Share quality photos and videos to give them a real feel of the space. While you don’t need to bake fresh cookies to create that homey feel, remember to stage it the same way you would if these visitors were stepping inside. Remove any clutter that can create a feel of chaos, such as refrigerator magnets, picture frames, old magazines and large kitchen tools. Hide everyday items like kitchen utensils and bathroom toiletries in cabinets and drawers.

Also, purchase decorative accents like live plants and throw pillows to give some added life to each room. Removing heavy drapes will allow natural light to bring new life to a room. Lastly, if you’re in a house, don’t forget about curb appeal. Trim your hedges, remove weeds and plant seasonal flowers to create a feeling of welcome as people step up to the property.

Work with a trustworthy Realtor.

Especially in this time of uncertainty, it’s beneficial to partner with a Realtor before putting your home on the market. It’s our job to work with you to determine the best selling strategy for you and your comfort level. Look for a Realtor who is familiar with your area and the necessary resources to amplify your home among potential buyers. If you’re in the SRQ area, contact me at 941-225-1500, and I’ll be a trusting partner who will work alongside you to achieve your goals.

While the effects of COVID-19 may leave us feeling uncertain about the future, don’t feel you have to derail your life plans. If selling your home was a part of your plan before this unprecedented event, use this extra time at home to update your space, and I’ll work with you to put your home in front of the right buyers.
