The holiday season is here, which means family get-togethers, vacations from school and work, and several celebrations on the horizon! This season may not seem like the best time to put or keep your home on the market, but what if I told you that you could use the holiday craziness to benefit your selling strategy? Below, I explain four perks to selling your home this holiday season.

Get your house on the “nice list”
The hubbub of the holidays makes many sellers opt for a brief hiatus, which means less competition for you! With fewer homes on the market, yours will become a hot commodity and rise to the top of the listings. This can mean good news for your asking price and could increase greater chances of your home being sold sooner.

(Lightly) Deck the Halls
The “magic” brought on by the holidays translates well when it comes to showing your house. It’s no secret that homes tend to look their best during the holiday season, but with the loveliness of all the decor brings a sense of nostalgia and homeyness – just don’t go overboard. Try to avoid large or scattered decorations that can crowd and distract buyers. Trim the tree and make sure the presents are neatly placed, but ditch the stockings and the mini Santa Claus statues in every nook and cranny. 

Buyers: Checking listings twice
Some buyers wait until their families are all together for the holidays to begin the search for their new home. With January being a popular month for job transfers, many buyers may be looking to relocate before the New Year. These buyers usually have to meet a deadline to purchase a home. In Sarasota, many buyers are snowbirds flocking to the gorgeous southern beaches of Florida to purchase homes where they can spend the winter months.

Business slows down for Realtors, lenders, home inspectors and appraisers during the holidays, meaning they have way more time to dedicate to selling your home. When you have a team in place, you may be able to sell and close your home faster than you can say “Jingle Bells.”
